Hi folks — we’re Gary and Karen Levine. We expect that most people who read this blog already know us, but just in case you don’t, here’s a brief profile.
Karen and I became full-time RVers in April of 2018 after we sold our house/farm of 11 years in Gaithersburg, Maryland. A couple of months prior to that, I retired after a 32.5 year career with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), the 16th largest public school system in the US. Karen had also worked for MCPS for several years. To prepare for our full-time RV life, we purchased our RV back in September of 2016. Even though we had never RVed in our lives, we decided to go “all in” and purchase a 2012, 40ft, Class A diesel-pusher motorhome. We assumed that if we were going to spend so much time in a vehicle, then we better get a large one, both so that we wouldn’t feel cramped for space, but also so that our two golden retrievers, Luke and Bodhi, wouldn’t constantly get under foot.
Our primary desire is to explore a lot of the US, with an initial focus on the states west of the Mississippi River, since we have both lived and traveled quite a bit in the eastern 1/3 of the US. Not only do we want to see many of the National Parks and other beautiful areas of the country, but we also want to do it with an eye toward figuring out where we might end up settling down once we’re done with our full-time RVing. We have family and many friends in the northeast and mid-Atlantic areas, so we assume that we’ll find ourselves back in that area for many visits….which means we could be criss-crossing the country quite a bit or, perhaps, we’ll choose to catch some flights back east to save on all that RV driving.
Karen and I have three adult children. Our eldest, Jillian, lives just outside of Boston, MA, and is working at Harvard University as an executive assistant to one of the deans. Our middle, Emma, lives in Austin, TX, and is a venue director for a company that owns wedding venues. Our youngest, Gabe, lives in Rockville, MD, and is attending college.
