On to New Mexico! 4/13 to 4/30/19

Hi folks!  I just wanted to give you a heads-up that this blog post is probably a little lower on the reflective/humor scale than some of my past posts.  After six weeks in the RV, Karen and I seem to be having less mishaps to report…though I’m sure that having just written that will guarantee we’re in store for some soon!  This blog post is a little more itinerary-like – just catching you up on the places we’ve Read more…

Visiting the Big Bend Area, Terlingua, and Lajitas, TX – 3/30/19 to 4/12/19

Hi folks! This is one of my longer blog posts due to how much we saw/did in the Big Bend area and I thought it deserved more photos to support the post than in previous ones, so I just wanted to give you all a heads-up that it won’t be quite as quick a read as usual. We left Marathon, TX (that I recently learned is pronounced “Marathin”) and headed a couple hours southwest to Read more…

Back on the Road Again! Marathon, TX – 3/22-30/2019

Hi everyone!  Sorry for being so tardy in posting a blog entry – can’t believe it’s been 3 months since my last one!  Since Karen and I were just hanging out in Austin at Emma and Robin’s house for the past several months, there really wasn’t much to tell you about our RVing.  During our stay in Austin, we handed our RV over to a company that specializes in doing RV renovations so that we could make our Read more…

Answering Questions about RV Living – Part 2 — 12/22/18

I’d like to follow-up my previous post with another round of answering questions about RV living. Before I do that, I want to make sure to express the caveat that we haven’t been full-time RVing very long, so these answers shouldn’t be mistaken for some form of expertise.  They simply are our early impressions/thoughts about our transition to RV living.  I hope they are informative…and occasionally entertaining! Is RV living less expensive than traditional lifestyles?  I believe the best Read more…

Answering Questions about RV Living – Part 1 — 12/15/18

As our time in Austin is winding down and we’ll soon be getting back into full-time RVing, we can’t help but begin thinking about how life will shift for us once again.  Even though we have a really nice RV with many creature comforts, there’s no escaping the fact that there are aspects of RV living that one doesn’t deal with when living in more traditional housing.  So, for those of you who haven’t been RVing before, Read more…

Exploring Austin, Texas – 10/29/18 – 11/29/18

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in Austin for six weeks already!  Karen and I have definitely been enjoying our time here – it’s been great to hang out for an extended time with Emma and Robin.  It’s also been fun exploring Austin, too.  Before I go any further, I need to gloat a little about the weather.  As I’m writing this blog entry at 2:00 on the 29th of November, it’s currently 74 degrees here (it’s Read more…

Texas — Austin and Waco – 10/19-28/2018

Karen and I made it to Austin, Texas about 10 days ago, right after my last blog post.  The rainy and cool weather continued for several more days upon our arrival and so overwhelmed the Austin city water system that residents were directed to boil their water before drinking it.  In fact, even as I write this blog post, we’re still under that water restriction, but are hoping that it will be lifted in the next day Read more…

From Little Rock to Austin — 10/16-18/2018

The very rainy and cool weather has continued for Arkansas and Texas, so Karen and I decided to move into a mode of expediting our travel toward Austin rather than to meander and sight-see.  In “expedite” mode, typically, we’ll enjoy somewhat leisurely mornings in the RV, getting our coffee, walking the dogs, catching up on emails, texts, social media, etc., then go into prep mode to get the RV ready to leave for the next destination. Karen, Read more…

Nashville, Memphis, and Little Rock – 10/13-16/18

The weather turned unseasonably cold and wet after we left Walnut Hollow Ranch in North Carolina, so we only stayed for a 1 ½ days in Nashville and one day each in Memphis and Little Rock (Arkansas).  Just below are a few photos — the rest of my blog entry follows the photos, so please read on! As I’m writing this, we’re driving our way to the city of Texarkana – at the border of Read more…

Walnut Hollow Ranch in NC – 10/8/18

No doubt, the spectacular views from our mountaintop RV site mentioned in the previous post are the “rewards” Karen and I hoped for on our new journey. There is effort/stress associated with getting those rewards, so I want to make sure that my recaps of our journey do justice to that aspect of our journey, too. Basically, I want to keep it real, so to speak. Even though Karen and I want to get out Read more…
